The official launch of the brand new Renault 5 GT Turbo range adds an exciting new moulded carpet to Newton Commercial's hot hatch domination. We have teamed up with Sebastien Gontier at Gontier Racing to produce a range of carpet products, including one of our world renowned, formed carpets available in both LHD & RHD, for this highly prized European classic.

Developing the Best

Development of the Renault carpet began with sourcing somebody that could match the original red shade in an OE style tufted carpet, no mean feat in this day and age, but after a prolonged search managed to find a supplier that could match our wishlist for the Renault 5 GT Turbo red moulded carpet material. Our research indicates that red was the most prevalent colour made by Renault so we have concentrated our efforts on that in particular, however, the carpets are also available in our usual moulded needle punch carpet in both grey and black.

Once carpet was sourced, however, the Renault 5 carpet manufacture began, where all our moulded carpets begin with a car in our Suffolk factory. All our moulded carpets are made using a male and female form and our skilled team take a fibreglass splash from the floorpan of the car so that our moulded carpets fit first time. The benefit of a preformed carpet is that fitting is much easier as the contours of the floor have all been created before you begin fitting into your classic.

Once the moulds have been created, we start initial test production back into the Renault 5 GT Turbo. After trial fitting both to the Renault model here in our factory and with the support of Gontier Racing for the LHD trial fit, we make sure that everything fits like a glove.

The moulded carpet for the Renault 5 GT Turbo continues Newton Commercial's journey as the leader in classic car interior trim at the forefront of high quality product development. We have worked tirelessly developing a new range of preformed carpets made to original specification for both old and new classics on the scene, using our knowledge gained through over 40 years of experience in classic car upholstery. 

Whilst we have focused on the GT Turbo model, we are confident that all our products will fit other variations of the Renault 5 cars of a similar age as we successfully carried out some initial product testing on a Renault Monaco model at the same time.
